The Volvo XC90 has come a long way since its introduction at Adventure Concept Car at the North American International Auto Show back in January of 2001. Since then Volvo updated their 1st generation XC90 3 times. In 2009, 2010 and in 2012. Within the time period between 2001 and 2012, the XC90 won numerous awards including the North American Car of the Year award and Motor Trend magazine’s Sport/Utility of the Year for 2003.
The second generation XC90 made its debut in late 2012 with Volvo announcing its production 2014. This would also mark the introduction of Volvo’s new safety features IntelliSafe. These features were ground breaking and with the refreshed, stylish and elegant looks of the 2nd generation XC90, the vehicle garnered plenty of attention with former Top Gear Host Jeremy Clarkson naming it in one of his favourite vehicle’s in the year of 2016. The XC90 also won the South African Car of the year in the same year solidifying the XC90 has one the best vehicles on the market.
Volvo released a “recharged” XC90which at first glances appears to be identical to the previous model with Volvo opting not to update to much cosmetics on the XC90 this time around. The update of the XC90 includes and new chrome grill, Volvo on call functionality and a 6-seater option is now available. The cabin of the XC90 remains the same with more connectivity options including an additional USB slot and Sim card slot.
The XC90 trim levels also remain unchanged namely: Momentum, R-Design and Inscription. The Katter trim being the most luxurious of the 3.
