We hosted our leg of the Volvo Cars golf competition at the prestigious Gary Player Signature Course at Blair Atholl. This member and invite-only golf club offer one of the best courses in the country. We had the privilege of having the legendary and world Renowned Masters Champion Gary Player to be in attendance of the festivities that were taking place over 23rd-24th March 2018. In lieu of the purpose for our sponsorship, we were delighted to have contributed R10000 to Blair Atholl Pre-primary and primary schools which is one of Mr. Player’s passion projects as he believes in the sustainable and educational development of youth for economic progression of the country as a whole. From brand activity perspective it is important for us to highlight and showcase Volvo Car’s new arrivals to the upper echelons of the LSM as 80 participants in the tournament were given a taste of what the Swedish premium vehicle brand as in store for the booming SUV market in South Africa.
We had a chauffeur/shuttle service utilizing 3 vehicles: 1 privilege/ courtesy Volvo XC90 T8 Excellence Hybrid AWD- this vehicle was used to shuttle Mr. Gary Player to attend his affairs in and around Blair Atholl Estate as part of their re-launch. The spectacular flagship vehicle was allocated a driver-on-call for Mr. Player 1 V90 Cross Country D5 Inscription AWD 1 XC90 T6 Inscription AWD.
Branding was provided by FES as well as in-house flags, tee banners, A-frames and pop up banners. Tee boxes markers/pop-up banners were placed at the first and tenth hole of the course. Due to inclement weather conditions prior to the event, we were not permitted to lace vehicle on the golf course as certain sections of the greens were waterlogged. We delivered the vehicles on 22nd March in preparation for the weekend event. On the same Thursday evening was the opening and re-launch of Blair Atholl Estate. This was met with a warm reception and socializing by both members, guests and CMH Volvo Cars Westrand representatives to usher in the ambiance of the weekend’s activities.
23rd March had Mr. Player visiting various facilities such as the Blair Atholl School, in which to secure Mr. Player’s arrival at the VWGC we had to make a contribution to his passion project. The opening of Gary Player Wellness center situated next to the clubhouse and a Children’s shootout, in which a special prize was given to the winner.
24th March was the day of the Volvo World of Golf Challenge. The morning kicked off with the Mr. Player talking to the participants about the struggles and tribulations that he dealt with growing up and the reasons why he became a champion. He then teed off on the driving range indicating the best swing techniques and postures while driving, chipping and utilizing different strokes to ensure attendees gave their best performances prior to engaging in the CMH Volvo Cars Westrand leg of the preliminary rounds of the VWCG.
